We have heard from several of you asking if practices will start earlier than August 1 this this year... Unfortunately, the answer is NO....last year National Office made an exception based on August 1st being in the middle of the week... this year it is on a Friday... Please read the procedure below carefully....there are no exceptions to this rule:
Practices may NOT begin prior to 8/1/2008 ( FRIDAY ). Keep in mind that the Pop Warner Rule Book states a WEEK to be SEVEN CONSECUTIVE DAYS - No bending this with "weekends" or "days off" in the middle of a week to start a new one...
WEEK ONE - 8/1/08 - 8/7/08 - CONDITIONING ONLY - NO EQUIPMENT, NO TACKLING DUMMIES, NO CONTACT WITH ANYTHING OR ANYBODY.....
WEEK TWO - 8/8/08 - 8/14/08 - CONDITIONING WITH EQUIPMENT, AND WITH CONTACT ALLOWED.
WEEK THREE BEGINS ON 8/15/08 - Contact practices may legally be held
Remember, from 8/1 - Labor Day, practices may not exceed two and one half hours per day, not to exceed ten hours per week.
AFTER Labor Day, practices may not exceed two hours per day, not to exceed six hours per week.
The FIRST week is conditioning only - SECOND week, contact is allowed... after the second week, have at it!!!
Also, please remember that any player added after intitial practices have begun are subject to the same conditioning hours 10/10 as the other players. They cannot immediately begin contact.
If you or your coaches are fuzzy on the rules regarding practice, please refer to to the 2007 PW Rule Book, pages 21 and 22.
